WhatĀ EachĀ TreatmentĀ ActuallyĀ Does

No magic. No mystery. Just the science behind some of our favorite aesthetic treatments.
October is one of our favorite months at Max Aesthetic. The weather gets cooler, the sweaters come out, everything gets a little moodier, and we fully embrace spooky season.
So, in honor of Halloween, we’re opening the Max Aesthetic Book of Spells.
Aesthetic medicine can sometimes feel a little like witchcraft. Lasers that resurface skin. Needles that stimulate collagen. Energy devices that heat tissue without breaking the surface. Injections that relax muscles. Products with ingredient lists that sound like they belong in a chemistry lab.
But despite the potions, needles, lasers, and mysterious-looking machines, there really isn’t any magic involved.
It’s all science!
And understanding what a treatment actually does, and, just as importantly, what itĀ doesn’tĀ do, is one of the most important parts of choosing the right treatment.
So grab your broom. We’re getting into it.
⨠The Smoothing Spell: Botox & Dysport
Let’s start with one of the most misunderstood spells in the book.
Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators, which means they temporarily reduce the activity of specifically targeted muscles. When those muscles aren’t contracting as strongly, the skin over them isn’t repeatedly folding in the same place.
The result? Expression lines can appear softer and the development of deeper lines may be reduced over time.
What they don’t do is add volume, fill wrinkles, tighten loose skin, or improve skin texture.
That distinction matters.
If a line is primarily being created by muscle movement, a neuromodulator may make sense. If the concern is volume loss, skin laxity, pigmentation, or texture, we’re probably reaching for an entirely different spell.
šøļø The Collagen Conjuring Spell: Sculptra
Sculptra plays the long game.
Unlike traditional dermal fillers that are used to create more immediate volume or contour, Sculptra is a biostimulator. Its primary ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid, helps stimulate your body’s own collagen production.
That means the result isn’t supposed to appear overnight.
Over the following weeks and months, new collagen gradually develops, which can improve support and structure in the treated areas.
It’s one of the reasons we love Sculptra for patients who want results that develop gradually.
Less POOF! More slow-burn magic.
š„ The Resurfacing & Tightening Spell: Helix
Helix is one of our most customizable laser treatments because it can work on both the surface and deeper layers of the skin.
Depending on how we customize your treatment, Helix can help improve:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven texture
- Sun damage
- Enlarged-looking pores
- Crepey skin
- Mild skin laxity and firmness
Helix can be used for lighter resurfacing treatments like CoolPeel, deeper collagen remodeling, or a combination of both.
The best part? We don’t have to treat everyone’s skin the same way. We can customize your Helix treatment based on your skin, your goals, and how much downtime you’re comfortable with.
One device. Different spells. š„
š® The Firming Spell: Everesse
This one doesn’t involve needles or removing the surface of the skin at all.
Everesse uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to deliver controlled heat into deeper tissue. That thermal energy creates a collagen-remodeling response and is used when the goal is improving firmness and laxity.
Because the energy is delivered beneath the surface, the skin itself remains intact.
This is also why you’ll sometimes see us combine different technologies in a treatment plan. One device may be working deeper to address firmness while another addresses the skin’s surface.
They’re not doing the same job.
They’re working at different levels.
š The Glow Spell: MoveoGlo
Not every skin concern is about wrinkles.
Pigmentation, sun damage, redness, and uneven tone can dramatically affect how skin looks overallāeven when the skin itself is relatively smooth.
MoveoGlo uses light- and laser-based technology to target pigment and vascular concerns, helping create a clearer, more even-looking complexion.
But here’s where things get slightly less magical:
Not every brown spot is the same. Not every red spot is the same.
Certain pigmentation concerns require very different approaches, and some should not be treated with a laser at all.
That’s why we want to actually look at your skin before deciding what belongs in your treatment plan.
šŖ” The Renewal Spell: SkinPen
Yes, we’re intentionally poking tiny holes in your skin.
Stay with us.
SkinPen microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that initiate the body’s natural wound-healing response. That process includes collagen and extracellular matrix remodeling, which is why microneedling is commonly used to improve concerns such as acne scars, fine lines, and skin texture.
And no, the goal isn’t to make the treatment as aggressive as humanly possible.
More trauma doesn’t automatically equal better results.
The goal is a controlled response, followed by appropriate healing.
š§Ŗ The Daily Potion: ZO Skin Health
Here comes the decidedly unexciting truth about aesthetic medicine:
What you do at home matters. A lot.
You can invest in lasers, microneedling, collagen stimulation, and injectables, but your skin still has to live with you the other 364 days of the year.
Daily sunscreen, appropriate cleansing, retinoids when indicated, antioxidants, exfoliation, hydration, and other targeted ingredients can play an enormous role in maintaining skin health and supporting treatment results.
And more products aren’t necessarily better.
We would much rather see someone consistently use a few products that make sense for their skin than own a bathroom cabinet full of expensive potions they don’t need.
š§¹ The Reset Spell: Max Custom Facial + Dermaplaning
Sometimes you don’t need lasers.
You don’t need needles.
You don’t need to summon collagen from another dimension.
You just need a really good facial.
Our customized facials allow us to assess what’s happening with your skin and tailor treatment accordingly. Dermaplaning can also remove superficial dead skin cells and vellus hair, leaving the skin feeling smoother and creating an immediate refreshed appearance.
This is also a great starting point for someone who knows they want to take better care of their skin but has absolutely no idea where to begin.
You don’t have to walk through the door knowing which treatment you need.
That’s our job.
šÆļø The Most Important Spell: The Treatment Plan
Here’s the biggest secret in the entire book:
There isn’t one treatment that everyone needs.
Someone may benefit from resurfacing but not tightening. Another person may want collagen stimulation but have absolutely no interest in Botox. Someone else may come in convinced they need a laser when what would actually make the biggest difference is changing what they’re doing at home.
And sometimes the right answer is to do nothing yet.
At Max Aesthetic, our goal isn’t to see how many treatments we can fit into your plan. It’s to understand your concerns, look at your skin and anatomy, talk about your goals, and determine what actually makes sense for you.
Because aesthetic medicine shouldn’t feel mysterious, and you shouldn’t need a crystal ball to figure out what you’re signing up for.
The magic isn’t doing everything. It’s knowing what to do, and what not to do.
Personalized care. Exceptional results.
Happy Halloween from Max Aesthetic. š
